Cine Capitol, Gran Via (Capitol Theater)

Not a few love to call Gran Via as Madrid’s The Great White Way, the Spanish capital‘s own version of Broadway, which is quite apt as many of the city’s popular theaters and cinemas are found here. One of the most popular is housed in the Capitol Building, or the Edificio de Carrión, which is located at a strategic location in Gran Via, at number 41.

An exceptionally beautiful edifice that now stands prominently in this street, Capitol was open to the public in December 1933, and was a proud masterpiece of renowned Spanish architects Vicente Eced y Eced and Luis Martínez-Feduchi. It is located in the corner of Gran Via and a stone’s throw away from Plaza del Callao.  Needless to say, the edifice is accessible to everyone, and is quite a marvel to ogle at, as it offers an most impressive view for tourists and passersby come evening.

There were a couple of times when I passed by the Capitol Theater, and every time, an important event was happening, like for example, a movie premiere. This is just evident that the theater is one of the most popular around, where all the “who’s who” and people that matter in the movie industry of Spain want their most important events to happen.

Of all the Madrid theaters, the Capitol is one of the most technologically advanced, with all the high-tech movie projectors and equipment is use to ensure the most pleasurable viewing experience of the public. It boasts of state-of-the-art cinema halls and similar spaces that they rent out to people for use in various activities such as presentations, screenings, and stage performances.

How to go:

Indeed, Cine Capitol is one of the most patronized theaters in Madrid because of its proximity to Plaza del Callao, but to a number of other squares and similar places that serve as great attractions to locals and tourists alike, such as Puerta del Sol and Plaza de España. What else must people do after a long stroll in these places the whole afternoon but to watch a movie at Capitol Theater come night time.
